The Asia Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (AAMLS) was inaugurated in Nagoya, Japan on May 14 1997 consisting of 12 Asian countries namely Japan, PR China, SAR Hong Kong (formerly Hong Kong), Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia and Philippines. Taiwan joined the Association on Nov. 26, 2009 during the 4th Congress in Yokohama, Japan.
 
The objectives of AAMLS are to elevate the status of Medical Laboratory Science in Asia and its neighboring countries; to offer opportunities for exchanges of information on medical science between and among member associations; to enhance mutual understanding between and among medical scientists of member associations and work for mutual assistance and improvement of expertise technologies and to improve reliability on accuracy of medical laboratory tests through cooperation between and among member associations.
 
The activities of the organization are publication and related works; hold Association congresses planned every 4 years; works related to research and studies, works related to awarding and education and training.

2001 The 1st congress of AAMLS was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. September 30 – October 4
2001-2005 Chairman: Iwata Susumu – JAMT
2005 The 2nd congress of AAMLS was held in Shanghai, China. September 25-27
2005-2009 Chairman: Eddie ANG – SAMLS
2009 The 3rd congress of AAMLS was held in Yokohama, Japan. July 30-31 (website)
2009-2013 Chairman: Rachana Santiyanont – AMTT
2013 The 4th congress of AAMLS was held in Singapore. October 2-4 (website)
2013-2017 Chairman: James Chang – TAMT
2017 The 5th congress of AAMLS will be held in Korea.
